Caen
June and July 1944, the battle of Normandy rages... for two months Caen is under siege from the bombs. The town is ablaze, the fire lasts 11 days. Death and desolation. Nothing of the central quarters remains. But the town of the Conqueror is not beaten. The ruins cleared away, Caen celebrates peace: a pleasure port, commercial streets, 30,000 students enliven the old city which does not forget and its memorial with its call for peace throughout the world.
