| Luxembourg |
Luxembourg stands on sandstone. With its fortifications, its bridges, its pastel-coloured buildings and its views overlooking the surrounding countryside, the city seems to be a military fortress, an urban dwelling or a country town. Two rivers run around the steep plateau on which the city stands: the Alzette and the Pétrusse. To the north, the Grande-Duchesse Charlotte bridge links the city to the Kirchberg plateau. The valley is split up into three areas: Grund, Clausen and Pfaffenthal.
