Irákleio

Iráklio is the gateway to Crete, an obligatory stopover before dispersing to the various resorts on the coast. Destroyed during the Second World War, the town was revived with a huge amount of concrete. The only historical features are the massive ramparts, the Venetian fort and arsenals and some elegant Venetian buildings.
