Square of the Republic
CZ - 301 16 Plzen
The main square of Pilsen, Namestí Republiky, is also the largest square in Bohemia. Lined with buildings from varying periods, to the north is the flamboyant Renaissance town hall. Its façade, crowned by a dome, is daringly decorated with bossage and sgraffite. The square is also home to the lovely Gothic parish church and, at N°12/105, to the house of General Wallenstein who, during the winter of 1633-34, betrayed his emperor by demanding that his officers pledge allegiance to him personally.
