The museum has collections of 19C and 20C art. The sculpture department is particularly rich, housing works by Rodin, Brancusi, Giacometti, Barlach, Nam June Paik and Richard Long. There are important works of the French Impressionists, painters of the Secessionist movement and German Expressionists. One department presents the New Objectivity and art since 1945. The museum is noted for its temporary exhibitions devoted to recognized figures of modern and contemporary art.
