To make the fountains of Potsdam work, Friedrich Wilhelm IV designed a \"sort of Turkish mosque with a minaret chimney-stack.\" The \"mosque\" (1841-43) represents a highly successful marriage between art and industry. The interior is as unusual as the exterior. The steam-powered machinery is hidden behind multifoil arches, underneath a dome embellished with Moorish designs.
