The town's busiest shopping arcade is also its most historic street, lined with elegant Late Gothic or Renaissance gabled houses. Under its arcades, smart shops vie for space with the restaurants and beer halls. Notice the gabled façade of the town hall (Rathaus). The Friedenssaal (Peace Hall), named after the peace treaty of Westphalia signed in 1648, dates from the 12C. The woodwork on the doors of the filing cabinet is quite stunning.
