The Antiquities Department gives an overview of Rhineland civilization, and in particular that of Mainz, since the prehistoric period. It houses Jupiter's Column, the most precious vestige of Roman colonization. Also see the departments devoted to the medieval and Baroque periods and the collections of porcelain from the Höchst manufactory and of Art Nouveau glass.
