This is one of the two main arteries around which the modern city centre was planned. The Karl Marx Monument is worth seeing, and a little further south there is a series of bas-relief panels illustrating the story of the workers' movement, both these sights serving as a reminder that Chemnitz was one of the most active centres for this movement.
