The former Convent of Saint Mark

The mother house of the Knights of the Order of Saint James, soldier-monks who protected pilgrims to Compostela, was built here in the 12C, long before Ferdinand, some three centuries later, decided to build a magnificent monastery. Its façade opens out onto two floors of niches and windows. The decoration in the sacristy, designed by Juan de Badajoz (1549), is superb.
