| Olympic Stadium Eteläinen Stadionintie 3 FIN - 00100 Helsinki | ||||||
| Inspired by functionalism, the stadium was built for the 1940 Olympic Games which subsequently took place only in 1952. At the entrance stands a statue of Paavo Nurmi, the \"Flying Fin\", a reminder of the exploits of this runner who won titles and medals in middle and long distance events in the 1920's. A 72 m tower gives panoramic views over the city, the lakes and the surrounding woods. A small sports museum recalls Finnish titles received in the various disciplines. | ||||||
