This grey-granite cathedral with a red roof was built from 1902 to 1907 by Lars Sonck in the national Romantic style. The medieval Gothic influence can be detected in the arrows of the towers and the pillars supporting the vault. Behind the high altar is a fresco (The Resurrection) by Magnus Enckell (1870-1925), who also designed the glass cross in the chancel. The immense frieze, Garland Bearers, is by the Finnish Symbolist Hugo Simberg (1873-1917), as is The Wounded Angel, the Garden of Death and the stained-glass windows.
