At the heart of Old Nimes, a stone's throw away from the Amphitheatre, the two symbols of the town - a bronze crocodile sitting on a fountain (by Martial Raysse) and a palm tree (a real one!). This is a square that bustles with many café terraces, standing as it does at the end of several shopping and pedestrianised streets (Rue de l'Aspic, Rue Régale, Rue des Greffes). On the paved ground, notice the «Nail of Nimes», that takes the town emblem as seen by designer Philippe Stark.
