Dominated by the old Stock Exchange, the Grand'Garde - the building with the ornamented pediment containing the daily newspaper quotidian La Voix du Nord - this is the lively centre of the town. In the centre Goddess's column symbolises the heroic resistance of the city in 1792. Set up in a copy of a 17C house you will see the bookshop Le Furet du Nord which is one of the most prestigious in France.
