Royal Pavilion
Old Steine GB - Brighton BN1 1EJ
The Pavilion's extraordinary silhouette, all bulbous domes, pinnacles, turrets and spires, is a free interpretation of Indian architecture, which came to be known as \"Indian Gothic\". The exuberance continues in the interior where Chinoiserie predominates, particularly in the Music Room. The Banqueting Room is equally sumptuous: a crystal chandelier weighing 1 tonne hangs from its dome, painted with a huge dragon in silver on a trompe-l'oeil of giant plantain leaves. The gardens have been remodelled and replanted to closely resemble the grounds in Regency times. On the northwest side of the grounds are the former royal stables, a huge, pseudo-oriental style building which now houses the municipal library, the museum and the Dome concert hall.
