Constitution Place, the centre of tourism and elegance in Athens, is dominated to the east by the old royal palace, built for Othon 1^st of Bavaria, which became the parliament in 1935. Below the palace, in front of the monument to the unknown soldier, the sentinels of the Guard move as in a fascinating automatous ballet. On the northern side is the famous Hotel Great Britain, redeveloped in 1958: its original buildings (1843) housed the French Archaeology School from 1856 to 1874.
