Ban-Josip-Jelacic Square
HR - 10000 Zagreb
This immense square, formerly a fair ground, was built in 1830 at the start of the development of Zagreb. Nowadays it is lined with a variety of buildings: to the east the imposing structure houses the Tourist Office and the elegant Gradska Kavana café. To the south, the Jutarnji List newspaper is located in a building designed in 1827 by architect Bartol Felbinger. The north side features a mixture of historicist and Secession styles. The statue is that of Ban Josip Jelacic, one of nation's fathers in the 19C.
