This Jesuit church (1632) was modelled after the Gesù of Rome, and is devoted to Catherine of Alexandria. Its façade, whose sobriety borders upon austere, hides one of Croatia's most beautiful Baroque interiors. The single nave lined with six side chapels shines with unexpected gaiety, due to the pink and white stucco work covering the walls and vaults. The work is the masterpiece of an Italian artist, Antonio Quadrio in 1726. Note the altarpiece of the main altar, decorated in trompe l'oeil painting by Kristofor Andrija Jelovšek, an artist from Ljubljana.
