Well-known for its occasionally highly charged atmosphere (especially when the graduate students wear their characteristic pointed hats), the university of Padua, founded in 1222 (Galileo taught there, Copernicus and Tasso studied there) is located in the Bo palace which owes its name to an inn with the sign of a bull which used to stand on the site. An attractive 16C courtyard opens onto the \"teatro anatomico\", an anatomy amphitheatre dating from 1594.
