Tomb of the unknown soldier
pl. Jozefa Pilsudskiego PL - 00-078 Warszawa
Situated in Pilsudski square, this monument, dedicated to the bravery of Polish soldiers during the First World War, was erected in 1925, under a fragment of the portico, single remaining feature of the old Palace of Sax. In the 18th C. sumptuous French style gardens were added to the Palace (the Saxon Gardens), before being redesigned in English-style in the 19th C., with nothing much left today except the central walk. Nowadays, the square is the occasion for a Sunday meeting, at 12 noon, at the changing of the guard.
