The square dates from the 1530s. At its centre stands the equestrian statue of Charles X Gustav, who annexed Scåne, Blekinge and Halland to Sweden in 1658. The fountain (1964) is by Stig Blomberg. The town hall, built in 1546 in Dutch Renaissance style and reworked circa 1860, is on the east side. To the north stands the Governor's Residence (17C) and Jörgen Kocks Gård (1523), a massive gabled building with redans that belonged to the burgomaster and Director of the Mint, Jörgen Kock. To the south is the pharmacy, which dates from 1571.
