This charming agricultural island was an important political hub in the 12C and 13C. From 1561 to 1680, members of the Brahe family lived in Visingsborg Castle, whose ruins can be seen to the right of the gate. Further north, the Brahes' Church, begun in 1564 by Magnus Brahe, was completed in 1636 by this grandson, Per Brahe the Younger. It contains numerous objects which belonged to this illustrious family. Kumlaby Church (1135), with a typical 12C nave, is elegant in its simplicity; the terrace offers an attractive viewpoint.
