The Audi TTS shows what it’s made of! With this high-energy version presented at the Detroit Auto Show, Audi is offering a sports coupé equipped with a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder TFSI turbo that now delivers 272 hp. Now, as 2008 gets underway, Audi is out to set the record straight by giving an extra dose of power to its little coupé which, until now, had been outclassed by the compact Audi S3… Today, the TTS is picking a fight with the Porsche Cayman! Indeed, boosted by its new 2-litre TFSI engine with direct petrol injection and turbocharger, the Audi TTS goes from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 5.4 seconds and can reach 250 km/h (155 mph) on a racetrack! This highly efficient TFSI consumes on average “only” 8 litres of fuel per 100 km (62 miles) in the coupé version, and 8.2 litres in the roadster version. It also has Haldex-based Quattro all-wheel drive. The weight of the TTS has been reduced by the use of light aluminium at the front and in the central part of the body (the rear is still made of steel). Additionally, the ASF (Audi Space Frame) technology optimises axle load distribution, thereby making it possible to reduce the total weight, which amounts to 1,395 kg, corresponding to a weight/output ratio of 5.1 kg per hp. In terms of design, the two coupé and roadster versions are distinguishable by their aggressive bumpers, bi-xenon headlights and daytime lighting. The 18-inch aluminium wheels, fitted as standard, are also a strong point. Inside, the leather and Alcantara sports seats are very low slung. Launch scheduled for spring 2008. Reckon on around £36,000 and £39,000 for the roadster version. 1 2 3 |
