Since it became part of the VW group, the small manufacturer from the Czech Republic has continued to go upmarket. The proof? The new Skoda Superb, which will be presented at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2008, and whose revolutionary boot is on the way to becoming a standard. © Skoda Just like the Fabia, from which it takes its notchback architecture and radiator grille design, the Skoda Superb presents more taut, aggressive lines. The great Skoda touring car already stood out for its record amount of cabin space. This characteristic is confirmed with the new body of the Superb, which measures 4.84 m long, i.e. 7 cm more than the Volkswagen Passat from which it is derived. © Skoda The three petrol engines and three diesels planned for launch, with power outputs ranging from 105 to 260 hp, already equip several models in the group’s range. The Skoda Superb will, however, have the privilege of inaugurating a revolutionary 565-litre boot (as opposed to 480 litres in the old version) with a dual opening system dubbed TWINDOOR: it can be opened either like a tailgate, Renault Laguna style, or traditionally, like the Passat. © Skoda Inside, the dashboard is similar to the Volkswagen Passat’s. Only the four-spoke steering wheel, shape of the gear stick and air vents give the Skoda Superb a cachet of its own. © Skoda Technically, Skoda is making official the arrival of equipment for everyday use, such as headlights that automatically adapt to different traffic conditions, with the scope in length and breadth of the headlights automatically changing according to speed and load level. Also note the “new electronic climate control system” and automatic parking system (already used in the Volkswagen Touran). | |
