Sightseeing on the Thames (London)
| 2009-11-17 By Audrey labrunie So how can you enjoy London without the congestion, noise and pollution? Well, how about a peaceful cruise on the Thames, the ideal way to take in a number of the capital’s major landmarks between Westminster and Greenwich. It’s advisable to opt for the Red Rover ticket (an all day pass) that will mean you can hop on and off the boats to your heart’s content. Board at Westminster Pier and head for Waterloo Pier to experience the heights (135 metres to be precise) of the London Eye. Then catch the next boat to Tower Pier for a stroll around Tower Bridge and the Tower of London before climbing back on board and sailing to Greenwich where you can take in the park and visit, among other things, the National Maritime Museum, Queen's House and the Royal Observatory (home of the famous Greenwich meridian). Whatever route you opt for, the journey is sure to take you past some of the city’s most well-known landmarks, including Big Ben, St Paul's Cathedral, the Millennium Footbridge, Shakespeare's Globe Theatre and the Tate Modern to name but a few. Look out, too, for the Docklands, the city’s influential and ultra-modern business district, situated around the old London docks and dominated by the imposing Canary Wharf shopping and leisure complex.
