Declared on September 12 that it was going to target and capitalize on Russia’s expanding tourist market, the hotel chain is increasing its operations with hotels with names like InterContinental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, and Hotel Indigo.
A new 1,000-room property is set to open by 2014 in Moscow and will be Europe’s largest Holiday Inn.
Scheduled to open later this year in November, the InterContinental Moscow Tverskaya is soon to be InterContinental’s first Russian hotel, offering 203 luxurious rooms on Moscow’s renowned shopping street.
Angela Bray of InterContinental claimed that the influx in properties is the company’s response to the call for more internationally known hotels.
She stated, "We want to help bring people from around Russia and the rest of the world to experience the country's rich cultural heritage and natural wonders, from Red Square and the Kremlin in Moscow to the stunning Lake Baikal in Siberia."
Russia is drawing in a large amount of new hotel projects and is quickly becoming a tourist destination for Westerners. Towards the beginning of the summer, it was calculated by hotel analyst STR Global that over 6,000 rooms were under construction in the country, a number greater than in France and Germany.
It was announced last week that Hyatt plans to open its third and fourth Hyatt hotels in Russian next year with its two new properties in Vladivostok.
While the Hyatt Regency Vladivostok Golden Horn will propose 217 rooms with views that overlook the Golden Horn Bay, the Hyatt Vladivostok Burny will provide 218 rooms that offer direct views of the Amursky Gulf.
