Located on a pretty tree-lined stretch, Plumed Horse blends nicely into this quaint town—just as it has for over 20 years. The rooms are elegantly appointed with dark wood trim, white panels, and a very impressive glassed-in wine storage area. (Have fun perusing their broad selection on an iPad.) Arched ceilings, soft lighting, and fresh flowers lend to the calm and tranquility, making this an ideal spot for a romantic evening or special occasion. The chef blends contemporary French sensibilities with California-fresh panache to highlight the bounty of local ingredients. Expect the menu to reveal an egg white topped with lightly smoked salmon, red tobiko, pumpernickel crumbs, and baby arugula; a demitasse of golden brown soufflé flavored with black pepper and Parmesan, with a beurre blanc "fondue" of Dungeness crab and uni; or tender antelope, nicely seasoned and presented with meatballs and stuffed piquillo peppers in a cabernet and shallot jus. To finish, the B-52 bar layers Kahlua mousse and Bailey's ganache set on a toasted hazelnut sable with caramel and crème anglaise.
