Loch Tay
The Green Guide

Useful information

Description

Dominated by the majestic Ben Lawers, this lovely freshwater loch runs for 22.5km between Killin and Kenmore and never exceeds 1.5km in width. It is fed by the River Dochart and River Lochay, and in turn forms the River Tay flowing out at its east end. Note the little Isle of Loch Tay. In 1122, Alexander I granted it to the monks of Scone. In the 15C it passed into secular ownership, to the benefit of the Campbells who were based here until their move to Taymouth Castle.
