Formerly the town hall, this E-shaped building was founded by John Cowane (c 1570-1633) to offer refuge to destitute people. Built between 1633 and 1639, the premises include a refectory with a dormitory above. The benefactor, a Member of the Scottish Parliament, can be seen above the entrance.
