An oasis of calm sophistication – with 12 seats on an L-shaped counter in front of the open kitchen – Krug is the creation of Chef-owner Karlo Kaleb. He and his kitchen are all from the local area and keen to celebrate its flavors and its produce. As they deliver each visually striking and creative dish to the diners, whether that’s the finger-snack of shrimp in homemade mascarpone topped with pickled kohlrabi or the ‘main course’ of delicious beef grilled over fire, they explain the full story behind it. Fish and meat are aged in the on-show cabinets, next to colorful jars of fermented and pickled produce. There are two evening sittings; the five-course menu is served earlier, while the full nine-course menu is reserved for those coming after 8.30pm.
