Ightham Mote
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
Built from stone and wood in 1330, Ightham is the most perfect example of a manor with moats remaining in England. It probably has its isolated location to thank for being so well preserved. Stillness and serenity reign in the interior courtyard. Beyond the corridor of the chapel lies the new chapel, which, from a historical point of view, is the most interesting room in the house, along with the Great Hall.
