For security reasons, tourists are advised against travelling to the region. Lake Turkana, the fourth largest lake in Africa, is both an exceptional wildlife reserve (the Lake Turkana National Parks are a UNESCO World Heritage Site) and an important archaeological site (Koobi Fora). Its dark green waters are impressive in the sunlight. Swimming dangerous.
