Beverley Minster
Michelin Guide
Well worth the diversions
Religious monument
The Michelin Guide's review
This monastery was founded in the late 7C. The construction of the abbey church, as it appears today, was started c 1220. The 101m-long building is almost the size of a cathedral and combines a mix of the Decorated (nave) and Perpendicular Gothic (main façade) styles. The Percy family tomb (1340-49) in Decorated style, and the 68 misericords of the choir stalls (early 16C), carved by the Ripon school of wood sculptors, are magnificent.
