Complementing its Federal-style neighbor, the Otis House, this handsome structure with its strong vertical lines was designed by Asher Benjamin in 1806. In 1775 British troops razed the original meetinghouse that stood on this site when they suspected the patriots of using its steeple to signal American troops.
