Lose yourself in the tangle of its narrow little streets, having entered the old town through the walls, via the Sea Gate or the Land Gate. Above the latter, a winged lion of St Mark is carved out of stone, a throwback to the long Venetian rule that lasted from 1443 to 1797. The town's historic centre is a UNESCO-listed World Heritage Site. Stari Grad (Old Town) is very popular in summer and hosts festivals and events all year round.
