From Socoa harbour, head to the semaphore to admire the view stretching southwest over the Basque Coast, from Cabo Higuer (Cape Fig Tree) in Spain to Biarritz. Waves pound away at the shaly rock of cliffs that plunge into the sea at an oblique angle. The site is particularly beautiful on stormy days. Skirt the coast up to Hendaye: lined with gorse, the road heads towards the cliffs of Socoa. From one vista to the next, pretty views open up over the ocean, which batters the rocks.
