The success and lavish Romanesque décor of Saint Michel of Cuxa are due to the impressive quantity of relics (90, plus two martyr's tombs) it housed in the Middle Ages, when it was the largest pilgrimage church in Catalonia. Despite its turbulent past, it has conserved an Eastern-inspired bestiary and floral decors, considered to be among the most beautiful of Roussillon.
