The Michelin Guide's review
The Botanic Gardens are home to nature-based works by a militant sculptor, who denounced the deforestation of the Brazilian forests. Frans Krajcberg (1921-2017) studied Fine Art in Germany and then in France, before moving to Brazil in 1948 with the help of Chagall. He began sculpting charred tree trunks and published the Manifesto of Integral Naturalism in 1978, giving a militant slant to his art.
