The Michelin Guide's review
This museum is located in the Fort of St John which defended the town against maritime attacks. An exhibition on the first floor is devoted to the history of the local navy. The second floor, which is more appealing, depicts the history of Dubrovnik's merchant navy from the 19C to the 20C, by way of superb scale-models of tall ships, steam boats and the first ocean liners. It provides an insight into day to day life on board, with lovely painted wooden seafaring chests, a portable seafaring pharmacy and a host of navigation instruments.
