Civil and military monument
  The Michelin Guide's review
This stunning example of 11C-12C Norman military architecture continues to dominate the town of Gisors. Built back in 1097 by William II, King of England and son of William the Conqueror, it changed hands several times, particularly during the Hundred Years War, before returning to the French crown in 1449. A public garden has been laid out inside the fortified perimeter where the 11C keep still stands, flanked by a watchtower and surrounded by a sturdy wall. There is a fine view of Gisors from the terrace.
