  The Michelin Guide's review
First known as Sveaborg (Fortress of Sweden), when it was built in 1748 to protect Helsinki from Russian attacks, the fort only acquired its current name (Suomenlinna) after Independence. By this time the defensive role of the fortress was no longer necessary and today it plays host to six museums, including the Toy Museum and the Military Museum's Manege. The restored submarine Vesikko is also on display here. This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
 Location
 Suomenlinna00100 Helsinki
