The Michelin Guide's review
The 1 April 1945 saw the start of 82 terrible days of cruelty and barbarity. More than 230 000 people, including 120 000 Japanese, died in the Battle of Okinawa, which brought the war in the Pacific to an end, with the Americans as victors. The Peace Memorial Park, in which a museum is also to be found, shows the horror of this frenzied battle and honours the memory of the victims, including those who died at the hands of the Japanese.
