The Michelin Guide's review
Between 7,000 and 9,000 elk spend their winters in this 24,700-acre refuge after migrating from higher elevations in the national parks and Bridger-Teton National Forest. November to April, this herd resembles swaths of dark brown earth on the otherwise white landscape. The refuge was established after cattle ranching and development disrupted normal migration patterns.
