The Michelin Guide's review
This magnificently preserved district is home to samurai abodes, each of which is set in a garden planted with weeping cherries and other century-old trees. Six of them are open to the public, of which the two most noteworthy are Ishiguro house, the oldest and still inhabited, and Aoyagi house, whose several buildings contain varied collections curated by the family over the centuries (weapons, crafts, photos). Iwahashi, Kawarada and Odano houses are not quite as opulent but also worth a visit.
