A fine private house, Tankerness House (16C) houses the well-presented museum of life on the Orkneys from prehistoric times to the present day. The many prehistoric sites are shown in chronological order and presented through objects. This visit is an ideal introduction to the exploration of the Isles. See the reliquary of St Magnus, a simple wooden casket; upstairs, there are exhibitions on domestic life.
