The Michelin Guide's review
Built in 1946, Flamingo became famous largely thanks to the fact that it was commissioned by Benjamin "Bugsy" Siegel, a notorious member of the New York mafia, who had moved to Los Angeles in 1937. The complex has changed dramatically since that time, but the pink flamingoes that wander around the pool, and fountains are still one of the hotel's main attractions.
