The "old cathedral" stands on the highest point of the town, La Roca Mitjana, on the site of a former mosque. Under the direction of Pere de Coma, work began in 1203 and the sanctuary was finished in 1278. With the military fortress by Felipe V, it is one of the major large-scale edifices of Catalonia.
