The Michelin Guide's review
To the north-west of the city centre, between an elegant Georgian district and the green tranquillity of Brooke Park, stands the Catholic cathedral dedicated to St Eugene in 1873 by Bishop Kelly, to whose memory the glass canopy was built. The construction of this neo-gothic building designed by JJ McCarthy began in 1853 and was completed in 1903 when the cross was placed at the top of the steeple.
