Religious monument
  The Michelin Guide's review
These ruins belong to the oldest mosque in Bahrain. According to local tradition, it dates back to the 8th century. However, archaeologists are less certain, preferring the 12th-13th centuries. Its two circular minarets, standing 21 metres high, frame the prayer hall, which is punctuated by pillars and columns supporting a wooden framework. In front of the building, a trench left by archaeologists reveals the basin used for ritual ablutions. An alleyway has been uncovered, with its rows of shops indicating a souk.
