Civil and military monument
The Michelin Guide's review
The Penitents' Tower is a vestige of the 12C fortifications that once stood where the town's boulevards now run. Turned into a bell-tower of the chapel of the same name in the 17C, it was spared when the ramparts were destroyed in 1768.
